Celebrating Unity and Growth: A Journey of Peace and Prosperity at the SG60 Walk

On June 1, 2025, Singapore blossomed with the “Peace and Prosperity Singapura SG60 Walkathon 2025,” marking the nation’s 60th anniversary of independence. This event was more than just a walk; it was a strong statement of unity, reflecting Singapore's rich blend of cultures and traditions. With over 2,000 participants, 800 performers, and 300 crew members, the event showcased the spirit of community that thrives in Singapore.


Participants gathered at Hong Lim Park, buzzing with excitement for a journey through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. As the sun shone brightly, attendees wore their event T-shirts, ready to foster connections and celebrate together.

A Route Through History and Growth


The walking route symbolically represented Singapore's transformation from a modest trading port to a vibrant global city. Participants walked through the culturally rich Chinatown, the lively Central Business District, and explored landmarks that narrate the city's history and future, including the Esplanade, Singapore River, and Merlion Park. The journey concluded at the picturesque Marina Barrage, highlighting Singapore's dedication to sustainability and green spaces.

Notable Guests and Performances


The event was privileged to welcome esteemed guests, including former President Halimah Yacob, who delivered an inspiring speech on the significance of racial and religious harmony. Also in attendance were Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth, Manpower, and the Mayor of the South East district, Mr. Lee Hong Chuang, MP for Jurong East–Bukit Batok GRC, emphasizing the community's spirit of collaboration.



The Climax of Celebration


As the walkers finished their journey at Marina Barrage, they were welcomed by performances from over 300 Malay kompang players, Indian dancers, and drummers. As the event neared its conclusion, attendees were captivated by a magnificent display of 60 giant flags, each standing 9 meters tall, accompanied by 60 auspicious Chinese characters expressing good wishes for SG60. This awe-inspiring moment was not only visually striking but also evoked a strong sense of pride and community.


The flags fluttered against the Marina Barrage, symbolizing unity, resilience, and the shared dreams of Singaporeans. Excitement filled the atmosphere, creating enduring memories of togetherness and happiness. This performance was also recorded in the Singapore Book of Records as the "Largest Display of Big Flag performance."

Madam Halimah also created a Chinese calligraphy piece with the characters "tian fu," which stand for Peace and Prosperity. In this context, "tian fu" embodies the ideals of harmony and abundance, highlighting the cultural importance of these values in Chinese society.
